Don’t Swallow The Comparison Pill

“Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.” – 2 Timothy 2:1 (NLT)

I finally gave in!

After days and days of nursing allergies caused by the spring pollen, I finally visited the doctor’s office last week and got an allergy shot.

With the shot, the doctor also gave me a drug prescription to help strengthen my body’s immune system.

Listed among the many instructions on my prescription’s label was the following caution:

“This drug is not to be transferred to anyone other than the patient for whom it was prescribed.”

We’re all undoubtedly aware of how dangerous it is to take someone else’s drug prescriptions…

We understand the fact that there are tons of factors unique to that individual alone that play into the equation…

family medical history…

possible allergies…

lifestyle choices, etc.…

When it comes to prescription drugs, we clearly understand the risks!

Yet what’s often not as equally clear is the risk of trying to take someone else’s “grace prescription.”

Let me explain what I mean…

With the onset of social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram, it’s becoming easier and increasingly more tempting in today’s culture to compare ourselves

to others’ results & achievements…

to others’ influence and rank…

to others’ opportunities and experiences…

Here’s why that can be so dangerous…

Whenever God calls you to do something, prescribed within that call is a Divine grace, or a supernatural ability, to fulfill and complete that assignment. This grace is a divine enablement that produces strength in you to fulfill what God has called you to do.

Whenever we act out of a comparison based on someone else’s life, we’re actually transferring a prescription of grace that God intended to be taken and to be used by someone else.

And the very same thing that provides strength to someone else can potentially be a source of weakness for us if internalized improperly in our own lives.

God has a specific calling unique to only you!

And within that calling is a prescription of grace–YOUR prescription of grace–which is where you’ll discover your strength.

Don’t swallow the comparison pill…

The risks and side effects of doing so can be deadly!!
